H.S. track recaps from Thursday, May 5; Batesville sweeps Ripley Co. titles

Batesville swept the Ripley County Championships.  South Ripley was second in the girls while Milan was runner up in the boys.

Girls team scores- Batesville 111, South Ripley 67, Jac-Cen-Del 42 and Milan 18.

Boys team scores- Batesville 116, Milan 59, South Ripley 37 and Jac-Cen-Del 26

Eli Pierson of BHS earned Boys Ripley County MVP honors. The girls MVP was shared by Jac-Cen-Del’s Cloey Simon and South Ripley’s Lanie Nicholson.

Pierson set a new county record in the 200 dash with a time of 22.70.  Simon established a new county best in the 300 hurdles with a mark of 48.10.

Batesville individual champions included two each by Cora Deputy, Veronica King, Eli Pierson and Benjamin Moster.  Single titles were earned Lily Meyer, Madelyn Pohlman, Katie Olsen, Kaylie Raver, Jake Chapman, Alex Murphy, Deacon Hamilton and Chase Hamilton.

South Ripley’s Lanie Nicholson and William Tunny each took home a pair of individual championships.  Single victors were Emily Flood and Ryan Miller.

Jac-Cen-Del’s Cloey Simon was a double event winner and Milan’s Benjamin Riehle and Mason Green rounded out the individual event champs.

Of note, Riehle also broke the previous 200 dash record, but his time of 22.71 was one, one-hundredth of a second behind Pierson of Batesville.

The Dogs claimed five of six relays.  Milan prevented a BHS sweep by taking the boys 400.

Edited reports from area coaches…

Batesville’s Lisa Gausman- It was a pretty wet and chilly night for the Ripley County Track meet, hosted by Batesville High School. However, despite the unpleasant conditions, the Bulldogs kept their game high and came through with some great performances.

Both the boys and the girls were awarded the County Championship trophies. The girls won with 111 points with South Ripley coming in 2nd at 67 points.  Jac-Cen-Del took the third spot at 42 and Milan had 18.  On the boys side Batesville won with 116 points to Milan’s 59.  South Ripley came in 3rd with 37 points and Jac-Cen-Del was 4th at 26.

Ripley County also gives out a girls and boys MVP award to the individual who scored the most points for their teams.  This year’s MVP went to Batesville’s Eli Pierson scoring 16 points for the Bulldogs.  On the girls side, there was a tie between South Ripley’s Lanie Nicholson and Jac-Cen-Del’s Cloey Simon, each scoring 17 points for their teams.  Congratulations Eli, Lanie and Cloey. Eli Pierson also broke the 200m dash record of 2012 (22.90) with a time of 22.70. Way to go Eli!

After the meet, we also had the pleasure of honoring our 20 seniors. Yes, 20! They are: Lily Meyer, Katie Olsen, Lily Pinckley, Carley Pride, Jy’Lil Chappell, Kyler Daulton, Nate Deputy, Jacob Garrett, Zach Gutzwiller, Chase Hamilton, Vonley Hund, Kasin Hughes, Ean Loichinger, Benjamin Moster, Alex Murphy, Will Nuhring, Eli Pierson, Daren Smith, Will Thomas and Derek Vansickle. A strong group of seniors that have provided great leadership and score lots of points for the team.  They will be missed, but they all have bright futures ahead.  Best of Luck, seniors!

Jac-Cen-Del’s Larry Hammond- Traveling to Batesville for the varsity track county meet. Finishing out strong to take a CO-MVP with 17 points is Cloey Simon (JCD) and Lanie Nicholson (SR). Cloey Simon took 1st in long jump and 300H, 2nd in 100D and 4×400. Lanie took 1st in 3200, 1600 and 2nd in 800 and 4×800. Batesville’s Eli Pierson took the boys MVP.
