H.S. girls tennis recaps from Wednesday, May 11; EC wins EIAC

The following are high school girls tennis recaps from Wednesday, May 11.  There may be updates, so please check back.

East Central won the EIAC regular season outright with a 5-0 victory against Connersville.  This is the third straight title for the Lady Trojans and the second straight finishing 7-0.  EC is 13-2 overall.

Heidi Kane, Payton Pies and Daphne Smets claimed the singles matches.  The doubles were secured by Michelle Batta with Elizabeth Kirchgassner and Avery Daniels with Kelsey Scholl.

Match results:

  • 1 Singles- Heidi Kane (EC) def. Kerstin Ellis (CON) 6-0, 6-0
  • 2 Singles- Payton Pies (EC) def. Cheryl Garrison (CON) 6-0, 6-1
  • 3 Singles- Daphne Smets (EC) def. Katie Mitchell (CON) 6-1, 6-1
  • 1 Doubles- Michelle Batta/Elizabeth Kirchgassner (EC) def. Sarah Cogar/Grace Kelly (CON) 6-2, 6-1
  • 2 Doubles- Avery Daniels/Kelsey Scholl (EC) def. Tori Hanson/Harley Morris (CON) 6-0, 6-0

The Trojans had several JV winners also:  Morgan Huber (6-1) in singles and the teams of Brooke Carpenter with Olivia Rosemeyer (7-5), Ava Kraus with Kayla Craig (6-3), Miriam Weber with Natalie Johnson (6-1) and Addy Inderhees with Hannah McCord (6-4).

The Spartans lone victory was in JV singles by Julia Poe (6-3).

Greensburg wrapped up its regular season at 13-2 and second in the EIAC at 6-1 following a 5-0 victory against Rushville.

The Pirates Jenna Foster (6-0, 6-0), Abigail Hoeing (6-1, 6-1) and Josie Nobbe (6-2, 6-1) took the singles matches while Janae Comer with Ella Chapman (6-0, 6-0) and Morgan Cain with Hailey Duerstock (6-0, 6-1) won in doubles.  Comer and Chapman accomplished the very rare “golden set” where they did not drop a single point within a six-game set.

On the JV side, Greensburg got wins from Leah West (6-1), Kayla Kramer (6-2) and the duo of Claire Nobbe and Anne Pumphrey (6-1).
