(Greensburg, IN) – The Greensburg Community School Corporation is one of only 10 Indiana school districts to earn the recognition as Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished District for the 2024-25 school year.
PLTW is a national nonprofit that develops STEM curriculum for elementary, middle and high schools across the United States. The prestigious award is given to schools that provide students with the in-demand, real-world knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in life beyond the classroom.
Greensburg Elementary School has been recognized as PLTW Launch School, Greensburg Junior High School has earned the designation of PLTW Gateway Program and Greensburg Community High School has earned PLTW High School Program.
With each school earning the recognition individually, the school corporation is one of just 82 nationwide to be designated with the Distinguished District honor.
“This is a true testament to the staff and students at Greensburg Community Schools to be recognized again with this honor,” said Superintendent Tom Hunter. “The PLTW program in each school is inspiring our students to believe in themselves and prepares them to reach their full potential in and out of the classroom.”
To be eligible for the designation, each Greensburg school had to meet multiple criteria such as the number of PLTW courses available to students, percent of students enrolled in PLTW, percentage of students taking more than one PLTW course, and efforts to ensure equitable access to PLTW courses.
Baylee Gabbard oversees the Engineering and Technology classes at Greensburg Junior High School. She says the PLTW recognition is a testament to the hard work of the students and their collaboration with classmates.
“While not every student will become an engineer, showing them that there is more than just becoming a computer scientist, or constructing a building, there are other aspects that this teaches including problem solving, working well with others, and creative thinking, that can be applied to whatever they do in life,” Gabbard said.
