Greensburg, IN — Zachary Aaron Woodward of Greensburg was sentenced Monday in Decatur Superior Court to 30 years in prison following his conviction last month on three counts, two of which were felonies.
A jury convicted Woodward of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (a Level 4 Felony); Possession of Methamphetamine (a Level 5 Felony); and Possession of Marijuana (a
Class A Misdemeanor). He was also found by jurors to be a Habitual Offender.
Woodward could have received anywhere from eight to 32 years in prison
. The sentence of 30 years was handed down by Decatur Superior Court Judge Matthew Bailey.
The trial lasted three days before the jury came back with guilty verdicts on all counts.
In a press release, Decatur County Prosecuting Attorney Nate Harter recognized Greensburg Police Department (GPD) personnel for their work on the case – specifically lead investigator, Sgt. Brandon Meyer.
Harter also thanked GPD Detective Steve Barnes, Assistant Chief Mike McNealy, Detective Mark Naylor, along with Dustin Barkdull with Community Corrections and forensic scientist Sarah Meisinger with the Indiana State Police Laboratory Drug Unit. Both Barkdull and Meisinger testified before the jury.
