(Greensburg, IN) – Greensburg City Council recognized retiring city engineer Ron May at Tuesday night’s meeting.

He’s been with the city for eight-and-a-half years and three administrations after owning a consulting firm that performed transportation work around the state.

“Probably the proudest thing is seeing the Park Road project getting started. That’s going to be a great asset for the community and whatever contribution I had toward that is meaningful to me,” May said when asked about his top accomplishments during his tenure. “The City Hall remodel project was a great project. I’ve been very blessed that we have done some really good things in my time with the city.

“I have been blessed to have this opportunity. I have been treated so well by the three different administrations I’ve worked for, and by the citizens of Greensburg,” he added. “It’s a great community…truly great.”

May is tentatively set to leave the position full-time in early January.

Meanwhile, Zach Wirrig has been hired to succeed May and will serve under the newly-created job title of Director of Public Projects starting Dec. 29. May will assist Wirrig during the transition.

It was also the last meeting for District 4 Councilman Rick Emsweller, who did not run for re-election this year.
