(Greensburg, IN) – Greensburg City Council approved a series of 2026 budget measures at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Council gave the thumbs up to the city budget; Greensburg Community Schools budget; and ordinances pertaining to elected officials salaries, city salaries, and Greensburg Utilities salaries.

“The school budget reflects a small increase of $1,000 that we gave to our certified staff, and two-percent raise to our classified staff,” said Greensburg Schools Superintendent Tom Hunter. “There’s really no change anticipated in our tax rate for the year.”

However, on the heels of Senate Enrolled Act 1’s passage during the 2025 Indiana General Assembly session, Hunter says the school district is looking at $575,000 hit on the operations fund.

“It wasn’t a surprise. We’ll weather the storm,” Hunter said. “The sky’s not falling but you can’t take too many hits like this for too long.”

Hunter says he hopes state lawmakers will make a correction during the upcoming short legislative session and provide some relief to school budgets.
