(Statehouse) – A bill authored by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) that would provide more protection for farmers through the Indiana Grain Indemnity fund unanimously passed out of the Senate Committee on Agriculture last week and the Senate Committee on Appropriations this week.
Senate Bill 461 would require grain dealers be more fiscally responsible, keep accurate records on their purchases, and improve other regulations and procedures.
“We have made great strides to protect farmers’ livelihoods through Indiana’s Grain Indemnity Fund,” Leising said. “This bill builds on the work we have already done by ensuring grain dealers responsibly manage their operations for years to come.”
SB 461 will now move to the full Senate for further consideration.
