Governor’s work ethic certification program coming to Ripley County

GPSRIPLEY COUNTY, Ind. — Genesis: Pathways to Success, the STEM initiative of the Ripley County Community Foundation, recently partnered with Batesville, Jac-Cen-Del, Milan, and South Ripley Schools to apply for a grant to implement a community and employer-recognized work ethic certification program.

South Ripley School will serve as the fiscal agent in the management of the $20,000 grant.

There were 42 different applications representing 132 schools from across the state.

Ripley County Schools were 1 of 18 selected pilot programs that will implement programming during the 2017-2018 school year.

The grant also requires the schools to train neighboring school districts to replicate the program in their communities.

The Governor’s Work Ethic Certification is part of an ongoing effort to encourage collaboration among employers, local school districts and career centers.

Employer input is required during the development of a program to provide high school students with the understanding of the employability skills in demand by local employers.

High school seniors who successfully complete the program will receive a Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate, signed by the Governor of Indiana and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development Commissioners.
