STATEWIDE — Governor Eric Holcomb came out Monday in support of Indiana schools instituting local mask requirements.
While he does not plan to issue a statewide mask mandate, the Governor said local schools are making the decisions they feel are right for their students.
Holcomb says many schools see mask requirements as the best way to keep students in the classroom this fall.
This comes as the result of spikes in COVID-19 cases in Indiana and across the country because of the Delta variant.
The Indiana Department of Health reported Monday that 1,902 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19. That brings to 803,403 the number of Indiana residents now known to have had the novel coronavirus.
Locally, Ripley County on Monday reported 14 new positive cases; Dearborn County had 11 cases; Decatur County reported four new cases, and Franklin County had one.
A total of 6,043,956 vaccine doses have been administered in Indiana, as of Monday. This includes 3,029,732 first doses and 3,014,224 Hoosiers who are fully vaccinated.
