Two pieces of legislation authored by State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) were signed into law by Governor Pence.
House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1180 encourages alternative fuel vehicle use by making updates to legislation authored by Rep. Frye during the 2013 session. As a result of that legislation, truck fleet owners and operators were able to use a tax credit to purchase clean fuel vehicles for their fleets. Now, those who wish to claim the credit must apply for and be approved for the credit prior to claiming it on their tax return.
“I pride myself on being a proponent of natural gas, as I feel that it is the key to our future success,” said Rep. Frye. “This new law makes a necessary update to legislation that I carried last year and allows businesses to better predict how to spend their capital throughout the year. Instead of waiting until they file their taxes to find out if they will receive the credit, they will now know ahead of time and will be able to make better business decisions as a result.”
HEA 1181 provides that a school corporation career and technical education center may receive an advance from the Common School Fund. These funds are often used for building improvements.
“This will essentially allow partnering school districts to pool their resources together and make needed capital improvements and repairs,” said Rep. Frye. “These improvements will make use of more energy efficient technology, leading to cost savings over the long term. I am pleased to see this legislation signed into law, and I look forward to seeing the improvements it will bring to the Southeastern Career Center located right here in District 67.”
This law will also allow a school corporation career and technical education center to receive a grant from the Indiana Safe Schools Fund, allowing them assistance in employing a school resource officer, conducting threat assessments of schools buildings or purchasing safety equipment and technology.
