(Greensburg, IN) – Lt. Rob Goodfellow with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office was named the Greensburg Optimist Club’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year on Thursday.

Optimist Club President Dennis Fogle presented a plaque to Goodfellow during the event held at the Greensburg Community Bread of Life (pictured).

Goodfellow has been with the Sheriff’s Office since November 2009.

The Michigan native served in the U.S. Army from 1988 until his retirement in 2008.

He moved to Westport in 2005 and served with the town’s police department until he moved on to the Sheriff’s Office.

Goodfellow is a 2010 graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, where he finished 12th in his class out of 62 candidates.

Since joining the Sheriff’s Office, Goodfellow was promoted to Sergeant in 2018 and appointed a Lieutenant in February of this year.

He says local law enforcement enjoys a lot of support from the community.

“I have friends all over the country, from the military, they’re in law enforcement and they’re always telling me stories. Greensburg and Decatur County…the support is just amazing,” Goodfellow said. “I mean, they’re always out there helping us.”

Sheriff Bill Meyerrose noted Goodfellow is a certified instructor in gun safety and vehicle operations and conducts gun safety classes each year at the Decatur County 4-H Fair.

Meyerrose, who championed body cameras during his campaign for Sheriff last year, said Goodfellow successfully sought grants to purchase the devices and has successfully applied for Operation Pullover grant funding.

Chief Deputy Eric Blodgett also praised Goodfellow for his efforts to ease the smooth transition to a new sheriff heading into 2023.

Blodgett also mentioned his leadership, calling Goodfellow, “a hard charger.”

Goodfellow thanked Meyerrose, Blodgett, and his family for their support.

“My daughter actually graduated from South Decatur (High School). She was one of the reasons I moved here,” he said. “I wanted her to start school and end school in the same place.”

The Greensburg Optimist Club has presented the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award since 1985.
