A local man gave blood earlier this week and received quite a surprise on Friday.
The Hoxworth Blood Center held a blood drive at the Sunman American Legion on Tuesday and 34 people donated blood.
Little did they know, Hoxworth had arranged to give one of four $1,000 shopping sprees to Macy’s to one lucky blood donor.
Hoxworth informed local resident and blood donor Dave Record that he was the recipient of the shopping spree on Friday.
Record had to confirm that it was true with Sunman blood drive promoter Roger Lang.
Lang said, “Hoxworth had a promotion going on that I didn’t know about. They drew a name of one of the donors and called him, he then called me, and I turned around and called Hoxworth to verify it.”
Hoxworth verified that Record had won.
Lang reported, “It surprised me I’ll tell you that!”
“But I am truly glad. He is one of the regular donors down here, he donates almost every time they come around,” he added.
Three blood drives are held in Sunman annually with the next in January.
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is the only blood center for greater Cincinnati area, and serves a 17-county area. The blood center collects, tests, processes and distributes blood and blood components to 31 hospitals and medical centers.
