Glow Party Offers Drug-Free Fun

(Batesville, IN) — A free, glow-themed event aimed at middle and high school students is coming to Batesville later this month as part of ongoing efforts by the Coalition for a Drug Free Batesville to provide substance-free activities for youth.

The coalition will host the Luminous Lounge Party on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Amack’s Well, offering students a place to gather, eat, and spend time together in a relaxed setting.

“Every month, the coalition hosts different community events that are free to the community,” said Danielle Becker, director of the Coalition for a Drug Free Batesville. “We call them alternative activities because they’re really alternative activities to using substances.”

Becker said the January event is specifically geared toward middle school and high school students and is designed to give them a fun option for socializing.

“It’s just an opportunity for our community, for the youth, the middle school and high schoolers to come together and just have fun,” Becker said. “And just, you know, get to hang out in a different way than they may have the opportunity to do otherwise.”

According to Becker, the event will include food, drinks, music, and glow-themed decorations throughout the space.

“We’re going to have food,” Becker said. “We’re going to have Ison’s Pizza there. We’re going to have some fun drinks that Amack’s is providing.”

Becker said the upstairs area will feature music and lighting, giving students flexibility in how they choose to participate.

“They can dance if they want to, if they just want to eat and hang out with their friends, they’re more than welcome to do that too,” she said.

The Luminous Lounge Party is free to attend, thanks to sponsorship support.  Students are encouraged to participate in the glow theme, though it is not required.

“Kids are more than welcome to dress in neon, since we will have like neon lights and purple lights,” Becker said. “But if not, we’ll have some fun stuff for them to wear while they’re hanging out and just like make it a fun night for them.”

In addition to the youth event, the Coalition for a Drug Free Batesville will also hold its regular monthly coalition meeting on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Batesville City Building, which is open to the public.
