Gerald (Jerry) Ross

Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Ross, 88, of Manchester, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 5, 2023. He was born on June 28, 1934 to the late Leslie and Blanche (Goldsberry) Ross in Hammond, Indiana. Jerry was married for over 65 years to his loving wife, Marna (Walcott) Ross. He worked as a millwright at I & M plant in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for over 40 years.

Jerry enjoyed music, especially the praise music of the Gaither Gospel Vocal Band. As a young man, he was a member of the Universalist Church in Manchester, where he played piano for several years. He loved all creatures great and small but had a special love for his collies and his Jersey cows. As a dairyman’s son, he took great pride and enjoyment in breeding, milking, and making pets of his beloved bovines. He was a master gardener, creating beautiful landscapes and bountiful produce each year. A generous man by nature, he was known for offering the best of whatever he grew to family and friends alike. Jerry was an avid sports fan, especially of college basketball, which he and his wife often enjoyed together. He valued family above all else and had a keen interest in genealogy.

Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife, Marna; son, Conner (Bethany) Ross; daughter, Amy York; grandsons, Dylan Ross and Keenan (Dawn) Ross; great-grandchildren, Breanna Smith, Logan Ross, Kasey Ross, and Beckham Ross; and many other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Blanche Ross; son, Kevin Ross; brother, Kenneth Ross; and son-in-law, Chipper York.

Private services will be held at the family’s discretion. Memorials in Jerry’s honor may be made to Manchester Volunteer Fire Department.
