Geneva Slagle, age 98, of Brookville, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 21, 2026, at her residence.
Born December 23, 1927, at home in Metamora, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Silas & Fannie (Estridge) Shell. On June 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to David P. Slagle, who preceded her in death on March 1, 2015.
Geneva attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary. She shared God’s love with everyone around her. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and most recently hosted a weekly ladies’ Bible Study at her home, which she led just days before her passing. She was truly a person who lived out the Gospel in her daily life.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She practiced hospitality, opening her home to help and serve numerous individuals. She was an accomplished seamstress, working on a new outfit the day before she passed away.
Those surviving include her children, Linda (Kevin) Knapp of Harrison, Ohio, Bruce (Lynn) Slagle of Newark, Ohio, Steven (Mary) Slagle of Indianapolis, Indiana; her son-in-law, Sam (Carolyn) Samford of Brookville, Indiana; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ron Shell of Albany, Wisconsin, Nelson Shell of Broadhead, Wisconsin and Ed Shell of Brookville, Indiana; in addition to many nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, David, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara G. Samford; three grandchildren, Gayle Samford, Robyn Samford, and Jedidiah Samford; and six siblings, Betty Tirey, Pearl Clause, Art Shell, Chester Shell, Mildred Platt, and Mattie Sampson.
Family & friends may visit from 9 to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Oak Forest Church of Christ, 13071 St. Mary’s Road, Brookville, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Oak Forest Church of Christ, and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
