Gene Halcomb

Gene Halcomb, of Metamora, was born on May 11, 1940, the son of William Carl and Ethel Allen Halcomb. He was married to June Hammond in April 1961, raised a family, and she preceded him in death. Later in life, Gene was lucky enough to find love again and was wed to Donna Allen Halcomb. He was the owner and operator of Halcomb Brothers Trucking. Gene was a member of the Metamora Church of God, and a former member of the Metamora Masonic Lodge #156. While Gene loved driving his truck, he also enjoyed camping, horses and mules, and his dogs. He especially enjoyed spending time with his large family. On Wednesday, July 26, 2017, Gene passed away at Rushville Memorial Hospital.

Gene left behind a beloved family who will cherish his memory. Survivors include his wife, Donna, and his children: Jamie (Dawn) Halcomb and Kimberly (Randall) Ison, both of Metamora; and Ronnie (Julie) Halcomb of Connersville; and step-children: Donetta (Zeke) Hensley of Laurel, and Jimmy (Heather) Halcomb of Metamora. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Mandy (Charlie) Selm, Sam (Tony) Steiner, Clinton Halcomb, Nick (Danielle) Halcomb, Travis Ison, Erica Ison, and Ryan Estes; three step-grandchildren: Josie (Dereck) Waltz, and Trey and Clayton Halcomb; and six great-grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his siblings: Donnie Halcomb, Mary (Gene) Hacker, Herb (Sue) Halcomb, Joe (Lucy) Halcomb all of Metamora, and Linda Back of Connersville; son-in-law, Rick Estes of Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, June; a daughter, Diana Estes; siblings, James A. Halcomb and Evelyn Halcomb; and a granddaughter, Emily June Ison.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 30, 2017, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Metamora Church of God, 20152 US Highway 52, Metamora. Pastor Wayne Ison will officiate the service on Monday, July 31, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Metamora Cemetery.
