Gayle L. Sarringhaus, age 80 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, at his daughter’s house with family. Born November 7, 1943 in Greensburg, IN, he is the son of Edna (Wirth) and Howard Sarringhaus. He graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1962. He married, the love of his life, LaVonne Lillian Meyer on August 7, 1965, at Huntersville Church in Batesville, Indiana. They were blessed with 5 sons and 5 daughters, 27 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Gayle worked for Batesville Casket Company for 44 years and did custom farming for many people. He was a long-time member of St. John’s United Church of Christ at Huntersville, where he had 38 years of perfect attendance at Sunday school. Gayle also devoted 40 years as a 4-H Leader which included, being leader of the 4-H Pioneers, 4-H Club and for many other 4-H Projects including tractor, dairy, shooting sports, etc. He loved coon hunting, attending Hunter Rallies and Farm Machinery Shows.
Gayle is survived by his wife LaVonne of Batesville; grandkids: Brenna Sarringhaus (Justin Piper) and Kurt (Abbey) Sarringhaus, great grandson, Waylon; daughter: Rhonda (Randy) Leek and grandkids Andrew (Autumn) Leek and Rachel (Alex) Uttley; son: Jason Sarringhaus and granddaughters Kaitlyn (MJ), Lily, Lydia; son: Daren (Nikki) Sarringhaus and grandkids Alex, Mikayla, Quinten, Payten; son: Elton (Shannon) Sarringhaus and grandkids Grace (Brandon), Luke, Maci; daughter: Danette Oswald and grandkids Samuel and McKenzie; son: Clint (Alina) Sarringhaus and grandsons Ayden and Camdyn; daughter: Lindsey (Marty) Hornberger and grandkids Karlee, Mya, Carson, Leland, Patience (Dawson) Smith and great-granddaughters Neveah and Blair, daughter: Junelle (Jeremy) Welborn and grandkids Jaxon, Jadyn, Johnathan and Jordyn; sisters: Darlene (Ritche) Pettit; Diane (Ron) Krumme; Peggy Shinn; sister-in-law Bertha Sarringhaus as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Sarringhaus, son, Brent Sarringhaus; daughter, Nina Kay and brother-in-law, Blair “Bob” Shinn.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 4-7pm at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. There will be time Thursday morning, October 31, to pay your last respects from 9:30-10:30 am at Meyers Funeral Home before the funeral service at St. John’s United Church of Christ at 11am. Burial will follow at St John’s UCC Cemetery.
