Lawrenceburg, In. — State Representative Randy Frye has been an advocate of adding a fourth Indiana port in the Lawrenceburg area.
Currently the 725-acre site, formerly a coal-fired power plant, is being cleaned up by the Commercial Development Company, Inc. “CDC has tremendous experience with redevelopment and remediation projects, which coupled with our team’s maritime and logistical expertise, creates a unique opportunity to pursue development of a port at this location,” Rich Cooper, CEO for the Ports of Indiana, stated in a news release.
Site mitigation is scheduled to be complete by December 30, 2018.
The Ports of Indiana operates three existing ports at Mt. Vernon, Burns Harbor and Jeffersonville. The organization employs 15,000 people and generates $4 billion annually in revenue for the state.
Frye says if site mitigation is on schedule some construction activity could begin in the summer of 2019.
