(Franklin County, IN) – Franklin County Sheriff Pete Cates says 109.6 pounds of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications were collected for safe and proper disposal at the four remote drug take-back events held throughout the county this year.
“Keeping that amount of drugs out of the wrong hands has a tremendous impact on our community,” said Sheriff Petes Cates. “We are grateful to our community for helping make Franklin County a safer place to live and visit.”
Cates and his deputies remind residents that there is a permanent drop-off container in the lobby of the Franklin County Security Center, where you can safely and properly dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription meds. They ask that you refrain from dropping off needles or liquids.
Disposed medications are incinerated.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office receives a grant from Stayin’ Alive, LCC to fund the take-back events and the disposal of collected medications.
Deputies are thanking community partners Stayin Alive, LCC plus the Laurel and Oldenburg police departments, Franklin County EMS, the Village Store in Oldenburg, and Brookville United Methodist Church for their roles in this year’s events.
