FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department announced that Deputy Ryan J. Geiser and Deputy Samuel Williams were bestowed the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Medal of Valor.
This award is presented for going above and beyond the call of duty.
On September 8th, 2016 Deputy Ryan J. Geiser and Deputy Samuel E. Williams were dispatched to a report of a woman, stuck in her vehicle.
The woman, who was identified as Karen Davis had mistakenly turned into a heavily flooded drainage ditch, stemming from a record breaking 100-year rain storm.
It was described water was overtaking the vehicle, and the passenger compartment was filling with water.
Fearing for Mrs. Davis’s safety and life, Deputy Geiser along with Deputy Williams entered the flood waters.
In water to their upper torsos both Deputes successfully removed Mrs. Davis.
In a small ceremony involving family and command staff, Sheriff Kenneth Murphy presented Deputies Geiser and Williams with this prestigious award.
