(Franklin County, IN) – None of the counties in the immediate area have ordered burn bans, but you’re urged to play it safe due to very dry conditions.
Franklin County officials are asking residents to be extra cautious and to hold off on any outdoor burning until the next significant rainfall.
“Nobody wants to lose their home, business, or crops because of a careless cigarette thrown from a moving car or out of control burning,” the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency wrote on Facebook. “Please keep a fire extinguisher or hose nearby when burning or better yet, use a burn barrel with a wire mesh top. If possible, wait until next week to burn, as we are expecting some rain this weekend. Remember, your firefighters are ALL VOLUNTEERS, so it can take longer to respond. ”
The U.S. Drought Monitor lists all of our area as abnormally dry.
