Franklin Co Floods Close Roads, Schools

(Franklin County, IN) – The area has felt the effects of heavy rains and extra runoff.

A number of roads and low water crossings or slabs in Franklin County were closed overnight due to flooding.

They include:

  • Levee Road between St. Mary’s and Snail Creek.
  • Sanes Creek Road from Tee Hill Road to Mettle Road. (reopened Wednesday morning)
  • Chapel Road from U.S. 52 to Bulltown Road. (reopened Wednesday morning)
  • Bulltown Road at the slab.
  • Stipps Hill Road between U.S. 52 and Red School Road.
  • Webb Road at the slab.
  • Pipe Creek at the slab.
  • Shay Road at the slab.
  • Stone Church between Little Duck Creek Road and Strawberry Lane. (reopened Wednesday morning)

Franklin County Community Schools switched from a two-hour delay to closed with E-Learning because of high water throughout the area.

“We had hoped road conditions would improve enough in time for bus travel this morning, but unfortunately it just was not able to happen. Please keep in mind that there are different rules for buses when it comes to travel on a day like today. There are still number of roads that are closed and many others are not currently passable by our buses,” Superintendent Dustin Gehrig wrote on social media. “As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and please stay safe.”

Meanwhile, public safety officials remind you not to drive through flooded roads, and to “Turn around, don’t drown.”
