Frances K. Enneking, age 96 of Oldenburg, died Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born December 18, 1923 in St. Leon, Indiana, she is the daughter of Josephine (Nee: Stenger) and August Frey. Fran married Ambrose Enneking August 13, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Church in St. Leon and he preceded her in death June 29, 2004. She spent several decades as the housekeeping supervisor for the Srs. of St. Francis before retiring.
Her kids described mom as a neat freak. Her house and the yard were kept immaculate and she thoroughly enjoyed working in her flower beds. Fran served as a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts during the 70’s, was an avid bowler, like making ceramics and amassed a large collection of owl figures and dishes. She was also an exceptional baker and her bread and raspberry pies will surely be missed. Fran and Ambrose loved to dance and rarely missed the opportunity. They would be there for the first note and wouldn’t leave until the last note was played. She and Ambrose were also part of the original Freudenfest planning committee, serving on it for several years.
She is survived by her daughters Kay Schumacher and Diane Dierckman, both of Batesville; son Keith Enneking of Maple Rapids, Michigan; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Marcella Trabel and Elvira Losekamp.
Visitation is Monday, March 2nd, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 at Holy Family Church with Rev. Carl Langenderfer officiating and burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice or the Holy Family Capital Improvement Fund. A large number of her owl collection will be at the funeral home Monday and the family invites you to take any pieces you like to have as a remembrance of Fran.
