Greensburg, IN — Decatur County Commissioners will hold their first meeting since the passing of District 1 Commissioner Chuck Emsweller tonight (Monday) at 6 pm.
It will also be the first of four evening meetings scheduled for this year.
Jeremy Pasel championed the idea of evening meetings when he was running for the District 2 seat.
He says a number of residents work during the day and cannot take off to attend a Commissioners’ meeting at 8 am on Mondays.
Pasel wanted to have 50 percent of the meetings held at night, but the board in January agreed to a trial run of four evening meetings in 2023 to gauge public participation and demand.
“I hope it’s a step in the right direction so that we can have more meetings at a more accessible time in the future,” Pasel said.
The other night meetings this year will be held on June 5, September 5, and December 4 in the Commissioners Room at the Decatur County Courthouse.
Commissioners will continue with the traditional 8 am Monday meetings on all other scheduled dates in 2023.
