Firefighter sworn in at Batesville City Council meeting

(Batesville, IN) – Jacob Speckman was officially sworn in as a full-time Batesville Firefighter/EMT-B at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

The 24-year-old Speckman is a 2017 graduate of Batesville High School.

He started in the fire service in 2018 and recently became a certified EMT-B.

Speckman comes from a long line of family members who have either served as firefighters or in public safety.

His father Don is a former Chief of the Oldenburg Volunteer Fire Department and served with the Morris Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition, the younger Speckman’s grandfather formerly served as a Batesville volunteer firefighter.

After Mayor Mike Bettice administered the oath, Don Speckman pinned Jacob Speckman’s badge on his uniform shirt.

The newest full-time fIrefighter was joined at the ceremony by other family members, including his wife Madison, and their two children Hux and Halston, as well as his Batesville Fire Department colleagues.
