GREENSBURG – Things went from bad to worse for a Decatur County farmer after a combine caught fire Monday afternoon.
According to the Greensburg Daily News, an engine fire in the combine started around 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of County roads 500E and 400N, which is approximately five miles from North Decatur High School.
The operator parked the combine near a tool shed and attempted to douse the blaze with a garden hose.
The combine’s fuel line broke, and sent the machinery up in flames and also spread to the shed, the newspaper reports. The combine was totaled and the shed was destroyed.
Fire crews spent upwards of an hour and half on the scene working to prevent the fire from spreading.
Responding firefighters came from Clarksburg, Greensburg, New Point and Washington Township. The fire departments were also assisted by the Decatur County EMA and Decatur County Sheriff’s Department.
No injuries occurred and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
