(Brookville, IN) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has reached a critical staffing shortage at the Security Center.
Administrators have been struggling for several months to keep employees to staff the jail.
As a result of the continued shortages, Sheriff Pete Cates is supplementing jail staff with Merit deputies, who will work overtime shifts on their time off in order to provide adequate staffing for the jail.
“We reached the point where we have to supplement the jail staff for the safety of not only our jail officers but also for the inmates in our care and custody,” said Sheriff Cates. “I want to reiterate: deputies will be working overtime on their off time. We are not pulling deputies away from road duties.”
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for jail officer positions.
Applications can be picked up in person at the Franklin County Security Center at 371 Main Street in Brookville, or online at https://franklincountysheriff.org/our-office/application-for-employment/.
