Extreme heat, humidity on tap for this week; all-time records threatened

SOUTHEASTERN IN — The area is in for some extreme heat and humidity this week.

An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for Ripley, Franklin, and Dearborn counties Tuesday from Noon tomorrow until 8 pm.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 am Tuesday until 9 pm Wednesday for Decatur County.

Dangerously hot and humid conditions with heat index values around 110 are possible during the period.

Forecasters say extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

The National Weather Service says you should drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and in an air-conditioned room, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

In addition, young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
