Excessive heat warning for the area starting today

Statewide—Excessive Heat Warning from Thursday at  2 pm to Saturday 8 pm for Dearborn County, Fayette County, Franklin County, Ripley County, Ohio County, and Switzerland County.

The rest of Indiana is under an excessive heat warning from today at 2 pm until Sunday at 8 pm.  Heat indexes could reach 105-110 degrees, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90’s.

Reschedule strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening. If you must be outdoors, stay hydrated and take breaks to cool down as necessary. If possible, spend more time in air-conditioned or well-ventilated places. Also, do not leave pets or young children inside vehicles as interiors can reach lethal temperatures very quickly. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing

Friends, relatives, or neighbors should check on the elderly and people with chronic ailments, who are usually the first to suffer from heat-related illness.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an emergency, Call 911.
