11th Annual Food and Growers Conference
February 4, 2017
The Food and Growers Association is hosting their annual winter conference on Saturday, February 4 at Batesville Middle School.
This year’s theme is: “Local Food: A ‘Growing’ Revolution”.
The event will feature speakers and educational presentations on two “tracks”, including lectures relevant to farmers/producers, and another aimed at home gardeners and consumers.
Topics will include:
- small farm profitability
- closed-loop farming
- season extension using high and low tunnels
- Q&A with experienced farmers
- fermentation
- canning
- cheese-making
- medicinal mushrooms
- wild edible foraging
Lunch will be provided as a “Taste of Southeast Indiana” from area restaurants, using local ingredients.
New this year, a children’s program for ages 3-10 will be available to the children of conference attendees.
Local food producers and other organizations will have booths in the vendor’s area/winter market, which will be free and open to the public from 9-11am.
