Ethel Margaret (Klostermeyer) Ollier was born July 3, 1936 in Batesville, Indiana, and entered His Glory on November 6th after 86 years of a wonderful life. Daughter of Paul and Norma (Brack) Klostermeyer, graduated from Batesville High School in 1954 and married her high school sweetheart Kean Ollier on July 23rd in 1955. They grew their three children up on a farm in Ballstown, just up the road from the one-room schoolhouse she attended as a child.
Ethel logged many hours in a tractor seat, raising livestock and crops with pride and was crowned Ripley County Farm Wife of the Year in 1985. She and her daughter Beth owned and operated The Gooseberry Flower & Gift Shop for 22 years, sharing her artistic talent serving the community.
A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Crossroads), she was always faithful and very active in many roles serving our Lord with gratitude. Ethel also volunteered at the local hospital, food pantry and Historical Society. She liked to golf, travel, garden, bake cinnamon raisin rolls, solve puzzles of all types, make slot machines sing, and play cards with her many friends, with bridge being her favorite.
Ethel and Kean loved their road trips exploring the great outdoors across the whole of the U.S. Favorite trips included cabins on lakes, visits to see Holly in Denver and frequent excursions to Hawaii and the Inside Passage of Alaska. Europe was explored by plane, trains, automobiles, river and ocean cruises, and roller skates!
Most of all, she loved her children Jeff (Mary) Ollier, Beth (Ron) Simons and Holly (Patrick O’Hara) Ollier; as well as her five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren: Sarah (Jason) Young with Macy and Addison; Gail (Ron) Hornberger with Brady, Cameron, Ayden, Wyatt, and Madelynn; Ted (Cathy) Ollier with Ryan, Lauren, Anna, and Calvin; Sam (Kylene) Simons; and Scott (Mandi) Fehrman with Emma. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Vyona (Paul) Borchelt and Terre (Louis) Kinker, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kean, sister Opal Meyer, aunt Ruth Thackery, daughter-in-law Chris Ollier, and son-in-law Ron Simons.
