ETC warning of possible scam

BATESVILLE, Ind. — Enhanced Telecommunications is warning of a potential scam affecting customers.

Officials say an ETC customer experienced a white van coming to her house, parking about 500 feet away, and then a man walked up to her home.

The man claimed he was there to bury a phone line.

The man left after the customer said she did not order a phone line.

When ETC checked the logs, there was no technician dispatched to the area to bury a phone line.

Officials say to be on the lookout for this possible scam, and remember that ETC technicians will typically arrive in vehicles containing the ETC logo.

Ripley County Sheriff Jeff Cumberworth says this isn’t the only scam to be on the look-out for.
