Ernie Clemons, 94, Greensburg, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Born, May 9, 1923 in Decatur County, Indiana, he was the son of Ernest and Clara (Humig) Clemons.
Ernie was a member of the Knights of St. John in Greensburg and a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He delivered Meals on Wheels for several years and he was a Hospice Volunteer.
He served in the Army with Company C of the 1874th Engineer Aviation Battalion in WW II.
He was part of the liberation of the Philippines and he received 2 bronze stars for his service.
He was married to Betty Blighton on December 25, 1942 and she preceded him in death on December 3, 1993.
He is survived by one son, Jeff (Barb) Clemons, Indianapolis; one daughter, Marty (Tom) Ogden, Greensburg; two grandchildren, Ann Baker and Scott Ogden; five great grandchildren, Harper, Elena, Sean, Andy and Allison..
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; daughter, Susan Dawson; brothers, Charles, Otto and Allie Walke; sisters, Bertha Wagner, Blanche Walke; grandchild, Erin J. Dawson.
Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg for a rosary service. Visitation will follow until the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Interment with military honors will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels or to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
