Eric Wilgenbusch

Eric Wilgenbusch, 73 years, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024. Eric was born on July 4, 1951, in Batesville, Indiana to Al and Mary Wilgenbusch. He grew up in New Alsace and graduated from North Dearborn High School in 1969. After high school Eric spent time working at a factory in Greensburg, Indiana and attended college at Vincennes University. Eric joined the United States Coast Guard (USCG) on March 5, 1971, and served four years as a Medical Corpsman. After leaving the USCG, Eric worked at Madison Hospital, and then studied Catholic priesthood in Connecticut.  Following this, Eric earned his diploma in Nursing from Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Eric worked at Good Samaritan Hospital as a Registered Nurse on the psychiatric floor for over 30 years. He spent many days caring for and mentoring his patients and successfully helping them.

Diane Murphy was Eric’s companion, and he enjoyed many times playing cards with Diane and his sister Marcella and her husband Tom. The four of them traveled to Germany and enjoyed many good times and gatherings. Eric was a person of strong Catholic faith. In Eric’s final year of life his family and friends witnessed how calm and fearless Eric was in facing death. Eric knew in his heart, based on his sincerely held belief in Jesus that upon passing on, he would wake up in heaven.

Eric will be missed deeply by siblings Marcella (Tom) McCann, Rosella Kemper, Gerald (Arlene) Wilgenbusch, James (Judy) Wilgenbusch, and Monica (Kerry) Poole; and many nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Al and Mary Buschur Wilgenbusch and sister Mary Steinmetz.

Services for Eric will be held at St. Paul’s Campus of All Saints Parish on Wednesday, October 30. Rosary will begin at 10:00am followed by visitation until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00am. Burial with military honors will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Memorials can be made to Masses, St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund, or Christian Village Hospice and will be accepted at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home.
