Eric Luther “Rick” Lindemann

Eric Luther Lindemann, 82, of Batesville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on May 14, 2025, while on vacation in Regensburg, Germany.

Born in Batesville, Indiana on January 27, 1943 to Luther and Rita (Bauman) Lindemann   Eric graduated from Batesville High School and was the first student from Batesville to attend the United States Air Force Academy. After earning his commission, he completed pilot training and went on to serve as a C-141 pilot during the Vietnam War. Over the course of his distinguished military career, he held numerous command and instructor positions.

Eric married Sandra Terrell on October 14, 1967 at the United Methodist Church in Batesville, Indiana.

Before his retirement, Colonel Lindemann had the honor of serving as Vice Commander of the 89th Presidential Airlift Wing. His final assignment was as Deputy Director of Current Operations at Military Airlift Command.

Eric was a man of deep faith and service. He was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Batesville, where he served as Vice President of the Church Council. He will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, and quick sense of humor.

In retirement, Eric enjoyed a full and peaceful life, spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, and traveling with his beloved wife, Sandra.

He is survived by his wife of 55 and a half years, Sandra Lindemann; his sons, Kurt (Collette) Lindemann and Lee Lindemann; his siblings, Dr. Jon (Sandy) Lindemann and Christy Salatin; sister-in-law Kristine Lindemann, and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Waunita “Neetz” Lindemann, brother, Greg Lindemann, and brother-in-law Darrell Salatin.

He was a loving husband, father, and brother, and will be missed deeply by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 1:15 PM at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Batesville.  The burial will be held at the Batesville United Methodist Cemetery, with military graveside rites being conducted by the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 of Batesville.
