Edward J. Nobbe, age 75 of Batesville, died Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Waters of Batesville. Born November 13, 1942 in Batesville, he is the son of Frieda (Nee: Lecher) and Martin Nobbe. He married Barbara Gehring September 12, 1970 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Eddie served in the National Guard and was called up to active duty in the summer of 1964. He started his working career as a cabinet maker with the Romweber Company for 11 years. He would spend the next 44 years as a butcher at Harmeyer’s Market, retiring just a few years ago. He was a member of the Oldenburg Conservation Club, Batesville V.F.W Post #3183, Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271, St. Louis Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #1461.
Eddie gave freely of his time and talents. He worked most weekends helping at the Conservation Club and was a long time fixture at St. Louis Bingo’s and the church festival. A Reds and I.U. fan, he also enjoyed deer hunting, working in the vegetable garden and cards, especially Solo. Eddie’s true passion was his grandchildren. He looked forward to attending their sporting events and loved spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife Barb; daughter Alisha Salatin; son Brad Nobbe, all of Batesville; sisters Evy Kuntz of Batesville, Rosina Forthofer of Sunman, Indiana, Mary Jo Wuestefeld of Batesville and three grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers Tom and Melvin (Mule) Nobbe.
Visitation is Monday, May 21st, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22nd at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. and the Prell-Bland American Legion. The family requests memorials to St. Louis School.
