Saturday night on the Sports Voice, we had a girls/boys varsity basketball double header with East Central hosting Batesville
The Class 4A-14th ranked Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Bulldogs 63-24. It was 37-12 at the half.
While both teams shot around 40 percent from the floor, EC had 38 additional opportunities thanks to its defense forcing 27 turnovers and the team holding a plus-21 advantage on the glass.
For the St. Leon ladies, Josie Trabel got a double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Brooke Carpenter scored 10. Laney Baker and Hope Fox put in nine with Baker also contributing seven assists.
Sophie Gesell’s 11 points led Batesville. Bre Wells and Alyson Peters followed with four each.
The East Central boys also won 44-25. It was an eight point game at intermission, then the Trojans outscored the Bulldogs 24-13 in the second half.
Unofficial stats showed EC with a plus-10 advantage on the glass and a minus-seven edge in turnovers.
East Central’s Caleb Mergenthal buried four triples on his way to a game-high 17 points. Teammates Casey McQueen and Carson Pieczonka scored six each.
For Batesville, Thomas Raver and Sam Johnson had nine and seven points respectively.
The JV Trojans and Bulldogs also played their games Saturday. The Lady Trojan reserves won 38-19. Batesville reported scoring showed Annie Negovetich and Ava Hanson with four each.
The EC boys also won their JV contest 58-30. Bulldog reported scoring had Byson Bonelli with 12 and Conner Drake with 11.
