EC Boys, Girls Top BHS at Invitational

(St. Leon, IN) – East Central took first place in both the boys and girls track and field meets at Friday’s EC Invitational.

On the boys side, the Trojans edged second place Batesville with 139 points. The Bulldogs had 136, followed by Elder with 96, Lawrenceburg at 71, Franklin County had 58, Greensburg finished with 45, Oldenburg had 40 and Columbus East went home with 36.

Batesville’s Jake Chapman set a new meet record in the 1600 with a time of 4:21.53, eclipsing the mark of 4:23.11 set by Franklin County’s Jeremiah Vaughn in 2008.

EC won the girls meet with 140.5; Batesville was second with 124.5; Seton came in third with 84 points followed by Columbus East (76.5), Lawrenceburg (70), Franklin County (50.5), OA (42) and Greensburg (31).

According to Batesville Lisa Gausman, Chapman was also victorious in the 3200 meter run.

The Bulldogs will compete again Thursday when they host the Ripley County Meet. They’ll also honor 21 BHS senior athletes.
