ST. LEON, Ind. — A group of students from East Central High School created a habitat for a declining species.
East Central High School FFA teamed up with the Fernald Preserve on to plant 250 milkweed plants for the declining Monarch Butterflies.
Monarchs rely solely on milkweed plants to lay their eggs.
Additionally, milkweed plants are the only plants caterpillars will eat once they crawl out of the egg.
Over the past few decades, the Monarch Butterfly population has declined by 96.5 percent.
