(Plainfield, IN) – Duke Energy is strengthening part of its electric grid to improve reliability and reduce power outages in Southeast Indiana.
The company will soon begin rebuilding a span of a 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission line crossing the Ohio River from the Tanners Creek Substation in Lawrenceburg, IN, to Petersburg, KY.
A specialty contract helicopter crew will replace 4,700 feet – about 0.9 mile – of electrical line and equipment from 200-foot transmission towers that span the river.
Crews will also replace a lattice tower located just off the shoreline of the Ohio River in Petersburg, KY.
The helicopter work is expected to begin on or about May 1 and conclude by May 14, depending on weather conditions.
Local residents can expect to see and hear helicopter activity in the area during daylight hours as the work progresses.
Property owners near the impacted transmission lines have been notified of this work by mail, and Duke Energy account holders are being notified through calls or text messages.
While work is underway, a portion of the Dearborn Trail will be temporarily closed from May 1 through May 14, between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm, Monday through
Friday.
Saturdays will be used as makeup workdays in the event of weather delays during the week.
