Downtown Batesville landmark celebrates 100 years this weekend

BATESVILLE, IN — The Gibson Theater in downtown Batesville will celebrate its 100th anniversary this weekend.

The first-run motion picture “Mayberry Man,” which is about “The Andy Griffith Show,” will be shown at 7:00 Friday night followed by live music from Levi Riggs at 9 pm.

Riggs wrote the music for the film and several musicians in his band have ties to the area.

“People are going to really enjoy this movie, especially if they are fans of ‘The Andy Griffith Show,'” said Kim Powell with the Gibson Theater. “The Gibson Theater will be the only theater in Indiana, the very first two weeks, showing the movie. And I think it’s going to be a very special movie. ”

The Anniversary Street Party takes place Saturday.

The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a 100-year ribbon cutting for 5 pm, followed by a performance from The Eureka Band at 5:30.

The evening will be capped off by a showing of “Mayberry Man” at 7.

Those who attend Saturday night’s showing will have a chance to meet the actors who performed in the movie.

“Come out and help the Gibson celebrate its 100th anniversary,” Powell added.
