“Don’t feed the deer” says South Central Indiana city

(Bloomington, IN) – Feeding deer in Bloomington is no longer being encouraged. In fact, the city council has banned the public from doing so, citing health reasons as the major concern.

First-time violators will be handed a fine of $50, with that fine increasing for repeated offenses.

The director of animal care and control says the ban prohibits anyone from placing food out for deer on the ground or in a structure under five feet.

Bird feeders, established gardens, and other planted crops are excluded.

The new rules go into effect this Friday, September 1.
