(Statewide) – Dolly Parton has urged Indiana Governor Mike Braun to reverse his decision to eliminate state funding for her Imagination Library program.

The initiative, which the legendary singer, songwriter and actress founded nearly 30 years ago, aims to promote early literacy by providing children with a free book each month until they turn five.

The proposed budget cuts would remove the 50 percent matching funds previously allocated to the program.

Parton highlighted the initiative’s success in Indiana, noting it has benefited over 125,000 children monthly.

She expressed hope that lawmakers will restore the funding to continue nurturing a love for reading among young Hoosiers.

The Imagination Library has grown from its U.S. roots to serve children globally, sending out over two million books every month.
