WEST HARRISON, IN — Demolition began Monday on the scale house that was destroyed in the early morning of September 8 at the I-74 West Harrison weigh station.
The scale house was crushed when a semi driven by 63-year-old James Bristol of Jefferson City, Tennessee ran off the interstate and smashed into the unoccupied building.
Bristol was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators say medical issues may have played a role in the deadly crash.
Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Seymour District Public Relations Director Natalie Garrett says future plans for the weigh station have not been determined.
However, Indiana State Police, which operates weigh stations that are maintained by INDOT, is recruiting motor carrier inspectors to staff the West Harrison station and other locations around the state.
Applications for those positions are being accepted through October 28.
