(Decatur County, IN) – The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several scams from Facebook Marketplace involving rental properties.
Deputies say the homes that are posted as being for rent actually are not for rent and are, in fact, owned and occupied.
You’re asked not to send money through apps or gift card information to anyone without first confirming the home is for rent.
This can be done by asking to see the home first or confirming that the person is a legitimate owner of the home or under contract to rent the home.
Investigators say the suspects are using local names with fraudulent email addresses.
