Dentist Reels in State Mark

(Linton, IN) – A Greene County dentist has officially reeled his way into the Indiana record books.

Steven Kellett of Linton set a new state mark in the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Fish of the Year program for 2025, landing 17 winning catches across different species — the most in the history of the statewide competition. The previous record was 15.

Kellett’s run included fish caught across several Indiana waterways, ranging from bigger game species to some of the state’s smallest record-setters, showing off the kind of versatility that makes the Fish of the Year program so unique.

It was also a family story.

Kellett’s 9-year-old son, Landon, posted an impressive season of his own, notching five winning catches on the 2025 list — putting the Kellett name on the leaderboard again and again.

The Fish of the Year program recognizes anglers who catch the longest fish of each eligible species in Indiana during the calendar year. Winners are tracked by species, giving everyday anglers a shot at statewide bragging rights without having to chase a single “biggest fish” category.

Kellett said the chase isn’t just about records — it’s about time outdoors and passing the passion on to the next generation, creating the kind of father-son memories that last long after the photos are taken.
