Dennis “Hammer” Wayne McMurray, 65, of Dillsboro passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Hammer was born on Sunday, April 27, 1958 in Batesville, Indiana; son of Eugene “Mick” and Dorothy “Dottie” (Lynn) McMurray. Hammer married his loving wife, Teresa (Fischer) McMurray on October 20, 1990 and she survives. Hammer was a member of the Methodist Church of Guilford. He owned and operated his own company, McMurray Trucking. Hammer enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and working/playing on his equipment. His greatest passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Cloe Paige McMurray, “Princess”.
Hammer will be greatly missed by his wife of 33 years, Teresa McMurray, of Dillsboro; son Corey McMurray of Moores Hill; daughter Amanda Solomon (Adam) of Dillsboro; granddaughter Cloe Paige McMurray; brothers Kevin McMurray of Guilford and Butch McMurray (Kin) of Manchester; sister Cindy Dudley (Mike) of Manchester; sisters-in law Annette (Raymond) Weigle, Mona (Rob) Thies, Susie (Steve) LaGreca, and Bobbie (Jake) Jackson; along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Hammer was preceded in death by his parents, Mick and Dottie McMurray; mother-in-law Darlene (Fischer) Heeke; and father-in-law Carl “Buck” Fischer.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Hammer from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Hudson Hall, 7249 Walnut St., Friendship, Indiana 47021. A service will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, November 7, 2023 with Pastor Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will immediately follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Farmers Retreat. Memorials may be given in honor of Hammer to the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery or the family to defray funeral expenses.
