(Decatur County, IN) – Decatur County elected and public safety officials have issued a countywide burn ban due to prolonged dry conditions.
County leaders say the lack of rainfall has dried vegetation to the point that it may easily combust and create a fire hazard that is a threat to public safety.
Anyone who violates the order will be subject to fines ranging from $200 to $1,000 plus court costs.
The burn ban is in effect until further notice and will be reviewed by county commissioners at their next meeting on October 7.
