Greensburg, In. — Decatur County Sheriff Dave Durant has announced the addition of three new Road Deputies and two Special Deputies employed as School Resource Officers (SROs) with the Decatur County Community Schools (DCCS).
The DCSO Road Patrol Deputies are Noah Moore, Shane Lakins and Logan Wilder. Noah Moore is a graduate of North Decatur and was serving as a Bartholomew County Jail Deputy. Shane Lakins served with the Department of Child Services as a case worker, as well as with the Jennings County Jail, and most recently with the North Vernon Police Department as a Reserve Officer. Logan Wilder served with the DCSO Detention Center as a Sergeant and was a Reserve Police Officer with the town of St. Paul. Each Deputy will immediately start their extensive field training with the DCSO and will also attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy within one year of employment.
The Special Deputies (SROs) are Pat Richards and James (Jimmy) Ponsler. Deputy Richards served with the DCSO Detention Center as the Jail Commander, and he also spent five years assigned to the road patrol division of DCSO. Richards most recently left the DCSO and was hired by the DCCS as their School Resource Officer. Master Trooper Jim Ponsler recently retired after 27 ½ years with the Indiana State Police. Ponsler was also hired by DCCS as their second School Resource Officer.
Sheriff Dave Durant stated that he is very encouraged about his three new road patrol Deputies, as they serve to protect the citizens of Decatur County. Durant said he is equally encouraged about the experience that both Richards and Ponsler bring as SROs protecting our children that attend DCCS.
