(Greensburg, IN) – A record $30,082.57 was raised at Thursday night’s Dancing with the Stars Fun with the Fifties event benefitting Greensburg/Decatur County Meals on Wheels.

Donna and Joe Johannigman won the judges’ vote to take top honors among the seven dance teams.

The judges’ runners up were Sophia Sullivan and Drake Ertel.

Becci Schutte and Josh Sweezy set a new team fundraising record of nearly $6,500.

Meals on Wheels Executive Director Diana Robbins says the outpouring of support is a blessing.

“This has just amazingly helped our program. We’ll be able to continue at the lowest possible cost to our clients,” Robbins said. “And it’s all thanks to this amazing group of dancers that we had this year, and the community coming together.”

Robbins says funding from Thrive Alliance in Columbus, which paid for six meals a day, ended last May.

Since then, the organization hasn’t had a prime funding source to help defer meal costs for the agency’s clients.

“The meals cost us between $7.50 and $8 a meal (to produce), and the most any of our clients pay is $2.40 a meal, so that’s a big difference that we’re covering with donations, and fundraising and memorials when, unfortunately, someone passes away,” she said. “You can’t ask for a bigger blessing than what we received tonight.”

In addition to home delivery of meals in The Tree City, the organization uses WRBI as a distribution site for clients in the Batesville area.

The Community Church of Greensburg on West Vandalia Road hosted the fundraiser.
